Visit to University Malaya
There are three types of rocks here, namely: sedimentary rocks, igneous rock and methamorphic rock. If not mistaken the yellow colour tag represents the igneous rock, the pink colour tag represents the methamorphic rock and the blue colour tag represents the sedimentary rock.
This rock call pumice can actually float on the water due to its low density and porous structure..cool huh?
This microwave oven is used to digest solid samples into liquid form so that it can be send to the ICP -EOS
IC(ion chromatography) is used to analyse the amount of anion in the sample. Samples are usually water and need to be raw, so to preserved the samples are acidified and cooled.
There are two types of ICP(Inductively couple plasma) which is mass spectrometer(MS) and optical emission system (EOS) the ICP used in UM is EOS. This is to analyse the concentration of cation in the samples. Samples need to be in liquid form.
The machine used to cut the rock into a thickness of 2cm and make it rectangular so that its easier to make as microscopic slide.
